There is nothing at all wrong with eating foods high in carbohydrates when we are on a weight loss program. As a matter of fact, we need those carbs as part of an overall balanced diet. Our bodies use those carbs for energy. The trick in maintaining the balance is to consume enough protein to help reduce the effect of those carbs transforming into fat cells before we burn them off.
There are many simple ways to get the protein our bodies need without eating a lot of fatty, animal protein. You don’t have to eat a big chunk of roast beef to balance a side order of roasted garlic potatoes. Add a handful of pine nuts to the potatoes while they are roasting in the oven. This will increase the protein value of your meal and give you other nutrients your body needs.
Sprinkle some chia seeds or hemp nuts seeds on your salad greens for extra protein and flavor. Alternatively you can add some toasted sliced almonds and a few chunks or feta or blue cheese.
If you have a craving for pancakes or waffles for breakfast, add a couple tablespoons of protein power to the mix instead of cooking up cholesterol-forming bacon or sausage. For a snack try making a fruit smoothie with yoghurt, a dollop of acai berry puree and some protein powder. You can make your weight loss diet interesting and still eat the tasty carb foods you enjoy.
